Slonim, 1941

Commissioned by Yad Vashem Art Collection.

Slonim, once a vibrant Jewish town. Between 1941-1942, a series of massacres took place annihilating almost the entire Jewish population of 22,000.

This, then, was the context in which this artwork was created. Using charcoal as the medium to create the appearance of an old photograph inspired by two visits to Slonim and the album in the family archive.

The family has since named the drawing  Slonim, 1941.

It was loaned to Wolfson College, University of Cambridge in 2019, before being transferred to Yad Vashem’s permanent art collection in 2024.
